Monday 5th March
Ey up!
It's treat time for our last full day in Dubs. The Burj Khalifa.
Dan booked this via Groupon which gave us fast track access to the 125th Floor *gulps* and a cookie/coffee at the cafe - winner.
Gliding past the snaking queue (and an abundance of bemused/angered faces) we entered the lift. This ascends at 9m a second, so 77 seconds later we reached the 125th Floor.
The Khalifa has more than 160 floors but beyond Floor 160 is just a vertical set of ladders. Yikes.

Anyone who knows Beth understands her inescapable fear of heights. Skirting the inner most rim of the tallest building in the world, Beth watched Dan skip around the Floor, pressing up to the windows and walking down onto the outdoor platform. Opposites attract y'no.
Eventually Dan walked Beth backwards toward the window to get sufficient evidence (pictured right *ahem*).
After kissing the ground, we headed through the Dubai Mall. 4 floors. 1,200+ shops. 120 restaurants. What more could you want?

We took a tram and metro to Dubai Old Town where we jumped on a water taxi from Bur Dubai Water Station to the opposite side of the Creek, Deira Old Souk Abra Station.
This was a fun experience, and at only 1AED, mega value for money.
Walking around the Spice, Perfume and Gold Souks was interesting but we felt a little hounded by the street sellers and it made us quicken our pace.

Hot and a bit jaded we returned to the Mall to have dinner - burgers and cloudy lemonade. This was so yum.
Walking the 2 mins outside, we positioned ourselves ready for the famous Fountain to begin its music and lights show at 6.30pm. Surprisingly relaxing, the fountain danced along to an opera song and really brought in the crowds!

Afterwards we became mesmerised by the Burj Khalifa's sparking lights and ended up staring at it for a good 15 mins.

Things we have noticed in Dubai:
- People here do not text, they use Whatsapp Voice Memos to communicate which makes for very loud tram rides!
- The diversity of dress. There doesn't seem to be any particular set of rules but Beth felt more comfortable covering her knees, chest and shoulders everyday.
- There is a noticeable attitude towards females and most guides and taxis only communicated with Dan.
Love,
B&D

The Spice Souk
Lucy was the same about heights. I have a picture of her up Toronto CN Tower looking petrified standing on the glass floor way way above the NFL stadium. Try to conquer your fears Beth, as the views from these places are amazing.
I can recognise cinnamon, lemongrass, nutmeg, chillis, coconut.. how wonderful. But who on earth is the feisty dude in black by the black bally things?! Some kind of spice god? Loving the blogs, keep them coming m'loves.
I know how you feel Beth....I was the same on the Empire State building xx
Conquer those fears Beth! Live the dream......
