30th May - 4th June

We spent 6 days in Malaysia's capital, Kuala Lumpur. Obviously our first meal was a Portuguese meal at Nando's. We were super excited to eat food we eat at home after so much rice in Thailand! Plus it was ridiculously cheap - £13.90 for 2 meals, sides and drinks - winner winner!

The Petronas Towers were an obvious highlight of our time here. They make you stop in your tracks; intimidating, perfectly symmetrical and mesmerisingly shiny!

KL wins for the most awesome malls. Buying anything here was a laughable matter though, every store is designer, but the impressive displays and sheer number of floors made it a worthwhile walkabout.

My go-to meal when I'm either unsure of the menu or not that hungry. Granola fruit bowl and juice! Yum.

The Kuala Lumpur Tower is a communications tower but also has a SkyDeck and 360 restaurant for those pesky tourists. After going up the Burj Khalifa in Dubai we had already satisfied our height-needs (not that I had any in the first place) so decided not to go up. It's coloured lights at night made for a pretty show though.

Below is the Lord Murugan Statue just outside the Batu Caves. The statue is the tallest Hindu deity in Malaysia and second tallest statue of a Hindu deity in the world. The Batu caves is a very important place of Hindu worship.

You have to climb the 272 steps to reach the caves at the top!

We visited the KL Bird Park. A 20 acre gated aviary housing 3,000 birds of which 90% are local.

Camera shy!

Taking a break from walking round the malls!

What we have noticed:
- There is a strict and notable approach to drugs and human trafficking. Announcements on the plane and banners throughout the airport.
- First time we had to have our fingerprints scanned at passport control.
- Tiger Woods and F1 Racing are big here, used in a lot of product adverts!
- A very multicultural country. Chinese and Indian people make up 31% of the Malaysian population.
- It was REALLY hot whilst we were here, in the late 30s degrees C. Sweaty weather.
Love,

Prices:
- Groceries are pricey! We accidentally spent £40 on a shop to last us a few days!
- The cinema was cheap though - £5.27 for both of us (we saw 'Avengers: Infinity War', thumbs up from us!)
- KL Bird Park Entry with Car Transfer to the park - £22 for both of us
- Train is very cheap - £0.93 to get to the Batu Caves for both of us

great to see those towers again .. they are amazing .. and your photos with you guys framed between them are fab .. I recall Tim and I ate western food there too .. after months of other things it was comforting .. we did very different things to you guys .. so its nice to see another side of KL .. we didnt see the huge statue , steps and caves .. that looked great .. .. hugs xxxxxxxxx
Two blogs in as many days. I'm loving the influx! Going on holiday with you pair in future is going to be a critiqued experience! You're so direct, yet funny; so obvious, yet revealing! Are we to expect another tomorrow?? 🙏😉
